Bannister Back armchair c.1740-1760

A
Massachusetts or New Hampshire 5-bannister armchair, maple with ash
stretchers, serpentine arms ending in "elephant trunk" form
(right arm rest repaired long ago), double arch
crest repeated in seat rail. Feet were slotted (very early wood fill) for
rockers. Rush seat may be original. Original dry crusty black paint,
well worn at arms and stretchers. Excellent condition, minor paint rubs.
Some seat rush long-missing. Private collection.
