Late 18th-early 19thC. Oil
Portrait on Wood Panel, New England. Board has original
battens at top and bottom, fastened with rosehead nails, to prevent
warping. Original wrought hanging hook. Two age-related hairline splits
to board. Evidence of earlier frame of some type. Paint has
darkened a great deal through the years, shows some scattered losses. No
apparent restoration or touch-up. A very early naive American portrait.
Measurement: 28.5 x 23".
