A Fabulous 19th C. Folk Art Hooked Rug or Chair Mat,
wool, hooked or "prodded" rug, simple central red star framed by
olive and black border. Reminiscent of a shirred rug, but also termed a
"proddy" because the small piece of fabric is prodded down through
(burlap?) while the two short ends then become the rug. Heavy cotton
backing is handstitched to what is most likely burlap beneath. A great
make-do stitched repair to the back. A few different shades of red
comprise the folky star. Great on a country table or a wall hanging.
Measurement:18 x 18 in. in larger area.
